After School Programs - Samson

Each year reaching graduation, many students has yet to fulfill their requirement for the CAS hour in order to graduate. It includes creative, action, and services, the school itself includes some after school programs but not very many. There is a limit in what a student can choose from, some students has joined other leagues or teams on island to fill in their time because they find no excitement in their after school activities, SIS two main after school activities are basketball and volleyball. Some students does not find these sports interesting and hopes to join something different for a change, soccer, baseball, or football is some sport that are mention by students. The school already has a small number people and is completely understandable that there may not be many afterschool activities because of that main reason but it should be considered that students should have a say in the matter. Students should be able to vote whether they would prefer a certain sport over the other but not being able to do so because like mention the number of people joining the sports is the problem. For a school that requires students to get and do certain things the school should have programs or clubs of some kind to help students fill out their CAS hours and save them the trouble of searching everywhere and driving to certain areas in a difficult time. Achieving the CAS hours is definitely going to appear well on a student transcript, but the problems are some of the requirements or things a student should do is difficult for them. An example would be creative; unlike sports students can just join a sport and get it over with. Students must do something different for a change which is difficult for some mainly because they’ve got other things to worry about at this time.

Song Review - Tik Tok

The latest popular song on the island of Saipan and throughout the States, “Tik Tok” sang by Keesha is now playing on radio, pool bars everywhere and is ranked as the ten top most downloaded songs on the internet. Sang with a very beautiful voice, not too loud or too soft with fantastic background music. The song gives off a certain form of energy giving people the ability to party or wake people off from a state of boredom, unleashing an unbelievable feeling to the audience. The song’s about partying anyways, basically for party goers; billboard is Americas top most listened to songs site with Tik Tok ranked as 3rd behind one of Michael Jackson’s songs. Popular music video as well, pumping out the youngsters nowadays. Although the author/singer is not quite famous but she is working her popularity up with this song, still to this very moment it is being listened around the world including Saipan which apparently is still considered the most popular song still. Not many realize but the lyrics does indeed have its meaning, a girl who wants to party and time is short not wasting our youth is the most important thing as of right now to young people, sharing what she has to say through her song is an incredible way of communication if people listens to them carefully. A wonderful song guaranteed that the majority who at least give it a shot would like it or at least appreciate what this teen has to say.

Junior Statesmen Program Article by Samson Hsieh

Summer break approaching, some students should and may consider the junior statesmen program. Junior statesmen program offers a chance for students to encounter or experience the college life before they actually enters one, usually takes place around top colleges for example Yale, Stanford, or Harvard. Although it could be school related it offers many opportunities for students to interact with one another and get to know the region better. Such programs are useful for students in order to get them to apply there or just to make them understand the place a little better of course benefiting the school. Price is nonnegotiable and is way high, not including the air fare covering the shelter and food for a certain period of time the longer the stay the longer the price. The program includes junior statesmen summer school and institute, main point of the junior statesmen is to acquire leadership skills and knowledge to be good citizens and making the right decisions as voters. The program itself is both local and national organized by the states, since the discovery of JSA by Professor E.A Rogers in 1934 there has been 500,000 members including Mike McCurry and Charles Schwab. “I don’t know if im going, im going to visit my parents in Guam and I don’t know but maybe, if it’s not that expensive I might. I think Mr. Tessen made it too interesting.” State James Kim from the junior class. Not many junior from school are absolutely positive in joining the junior statesmen program but it could be a once in a lifetime opportunity and gives great benefit for students deciding a place that they might want to go to college. the main problem is that the distance between the CNMI and the States is way too far otherwise some people and mainly parents might decide whether he/she and their children should join the program.

Choice of Location of Choosing Colleges or Universities

Majority of students love places that are suitable for their lifestyle and comfortable to live in, weathers and temperature plays a very important role in this matter. People tend to choose the state of California to live in because of its nice warm temperature and beautiful beaches with a good of amount of sunshine. Places like the north tend to be less populated but for a person who does like the freezing temperature it is probably more suitable for them to go to a school that is located somewhere cool. As statistics have shown California’s population is having a significant increase of population, “I like it where it’s cool you know, like places with no tornadoes or lightning storms and stuff like that. I don’t like it too hot either.” Said Michael Stuart from the senior class. A place that has all seasons is probably the best for most people because the weather seems to be balanced plus it makes people experience winter and summer not just one season all the time like Saipan. People like to experience cold weathers temporary, basically a time when specific season starts. More than half of the senior class like places that has all seasons and not a place that is continuously hot, a good amount of the junior class also plans on going somewhere that contains good weather and most importantly safety. “I don’t want to live in a place that constantly has drive by shooting and street thugs that are ready to mug you any time.” Says James Kim from the junior class. Most important things to look for in a good school are its surrounding and environment that best suits the person that are planning on going there especially if they are going to live and work there for the next four years.
