If you can teach your son only one thing, what would you teach and why?

Throughout an individual’s lifetime, the lessons they learn is the most important. If I can teach my son one important lesson it would be that, in life a person will always run into some kind of trouble and the most important thing to remember is to never give up, as one door shuts two others open. Many who can’t seem to understand often leads to suicides or serious depressions. Although depression appears to not be too much of a problem, it often leads to suicidal thoughts which sometimes can actually lead to more problematic thoughts. For example, killing oneself is wrong, but the thought of killing another individual is just unacceptable and evil. To prevent that, always look for the light, look for the greater good no matter how horrible the situation is. Remember without you, the world will not stop, time will not stop!
Today, too many people suffer from mental breakdowns and depressions or other similar disorders. This is a direct cause from the pressure given by the society to its people, as we progress further in the future, life will not get easier only harder. To prevent that, one must overcome anything and in order to do so, is to again look pass the negativity. It is alright to fail in life, the whole purpose of failing is so that we can learn from our mistakes and know to never make that same mistake again in the future.
The Chinese people have a saying, “不听老人言, 吃亏(Kui) 在眼前.” Which means, “If you don’t listen to the words of the old, you will have trouble right before your eyes.” A meaningful sentence said by my mother and by a lot of other people as well. A warning to the
next generation of the path they’ve taken and preventing them from taking that same route. Those who choose to listen will not suffer and those who do not will face the consequences.
But who is to say that nothing will ever go wrong in life? Even the older generations make mistakes and sometimes they don’t learn, the bigger picture is not about mistakes or about right and wrong. The big picture here is to not lower the standard of oneself and actually look above everybody else. Nothing will ever hurt you when you don’t have that much emotions put into you. Now I am not saying to be cocky, because then you will be put below everybody else. What I am saying is to look pass failure, it is okay to fail, but have the dignity to recover from it like what most people do. Remember in everything, failure is a possibility, face it then you won’t fail.

Name an animal and describe it in 500 words.

The world, filled with magnificent creatures, each having its own unique qualities. The one animal that still confuses people till this day is the chicken, we know for a fact that chicken comes from eggs and eggs from chicken. But really where does a chicken come from? The one animal that is most widely consumed and yet the origins of it is not known. We shouldn’t say it’s not known, because we do know. But where did the first chicken come from, an egg or chicken?
Even I am stirred by this. A chicken it is infant form (egg) can be boiled, scrambled, etc. there are so many ways to cook a chicken, and most of its part of are edible. The Chinese have a popular dish known as “Feng Zhua,” meaning a birds claw, but not from birds but chicken, which is a type of bird. It is my favorite and is also a widely ordered dish amongst the Chinese. Other places of the chicken such as for example its legs and wings, are famous globally. Chicken legs and wings are literally everywhere, you can walk down to any market and superstore and purchase it. If someone who doesn’t know or want to cook but wants it, can also just go to any restaurant and purchase it, for example KFC, which is famous for its chickens.
Chickens are not scary animals; they are cute, which is bad for them. People aren’t afraid of slaughtering chickens because they’re not scary as oppose to a cow. Plus disposing the waste of a chicken after is much easier than disposing the dead waste of a cow. They are easy to catch and easy to feed, even when they do somehow get loose they wouldn’t be able to get far. This is not the same for cows and other large animals, once they get out; the people actually trying to catch them will have a difficult time doing so.
Most importantly, chickens don’t take up too much space. People normally just built them a little house and they can lay their eggs, do their business and stuff inside and not causing too much problems for the owners. Also chickens give birth to baby roosters, which is another useful animal that can help the owners wake up once its morning. Chicken can produce many eggs a day; it is an endless supply of food. Because of the existence of chicken, a lot of people in this world didn’t starve to death. It saves lives, especially in 3rd world countries, where food is a problem.
Chickens also have a downside, because chickens and humans are similar in some way. People began getting diseases from them, for example the avian bird flu etc. resulting in a lot of people dying, and I guess it’s something they developed to get back at the humans for consuming them for centuries.

What could Saipan’s government do to improve economic conditions?

Currently, most of the world’s once rich and powerful nations are in a recession. People are not employed and things are not running smoothly, except for China, who is actually doing great during this recession. The local government on Saipan can actually take this opportunity to benefit itself, by following the footsteps of china.
Even though technically, Saipan belongs to the U.S, because it is a commonwealth and the local people controls everything. Things can actually be done around here much easier than bigger islands such as Guam or Hawaii. Because the people in the local government are lazy, and lack political abilities, the people of Saipan are suffering. If only the political system of the island is done correctly with qualified people running things, the federal wouldn’t have come, resulting in thousands losing their jobs.
The local government should somewhat provide jobs; give more opportunities to people, instead of handing out food stamps 3 times a week and spoiling its people. Every single person in this world is lazy, with food stamps provided, people will only get lazier and lazier. If the local government will limit a certain extent of food stamps given out, like for example, once a week, this would actually help the local people in the long run and finally achieving something for once in their life.
Now that garment factories are no longer here, the income of the local government just keeps decreasing. Because there are too many unqualified family members in the local government, they couldn’t prevent this from happening. Now Saipan must come out with a new way to raise money and make its way to the top again. Asking literally millions of dollars from the mainland each year will only worsen situation. There is a price for everything, the local people doesn’t seem to understand that. The money the U.S provides to us is not free; they would probably want something in return and soon.
Because Saipan is popular in the tourism industry, the local government should start from there. Hiring people and setting up advertisement, maybe even fixing up a few new areas to attract more people. Giving the tourist positive first impression so they could go home and spread the word, resulting in more people coming. Seeing the same things over will only bore the audience, people will come back and see there is no progression, leaving only knowing nothing will ever change. Because the paste Saipan is going right now, it is slowing down its economic system.
Saipan should literally pull its head out of the toilet and start running things in a much orderly fashion. Saipan is like a not strict and layback teacher, the students will most definitely turn out to be naughty and disobedient. If Saipan was much more like China, a mean teacher that’s says, do this or you’ll be spanked. Kids will more likely to follow the orders. The citizens of Saipan are naughty children and should be punished at times like this. Saipan, the teacher, should be punished as well. Maybe one day we’ll see the sun shining down on Saipan again.

The proudest moment in my life - Samson

Throughout most of my life I have not done anything significant. But the one moment that I clearly remember that I was truly proud of is when I first received my trophy at a Chinese learning facility, for an outstanding academic achievement. I am Chinese, however I have never studied in china, and I received the trophy here on Saipan. It surprised me when they announced my name; I stood up shocked and went to claim the trophy, standing alongside many other hard working students.
My younger sister was in the same learning facility, after the announcement was done, she asked, “where is my trophy?” We were very young then, still attending elementary school. The lady, who was announcing the names, said “you will have to work hard like your brother, work harder and next time you’ll get one too.” She cried and screamed asking for one and wouldn’t leave without it. My father and mother had to carry her out, that’s how young we were, we’re only two years apart.
The place was on the second floor, in a building across from a Chinese market known as Hainan Market. Back in the day below that facility there was another market, my parents wanted to congratulate me so they bought me an ultra man blanket, also a hello kitty blanket for my little sister in order to make her stop crying. My mom still mentions this day from time to time. It was a great moment for me. That is the first and only trophy that I have ever received up until today. Although it was plastic, it gave me a great feeling that for the first time I’ve actually done something right.
I loved that trophy; it was like a treasure to me. I remembered that after a few months after receiving that trophy my sister wanted to buy that from me. That trophy, my first and only trophy is now lost somewhere. But the feeling of receiving something that you’ve actually work for is the one feeling you need in life. That one little piece of plastic today still makes me feel great today; little things from my past have great sentimental value to me. I always kept my favorite toys or things such as that trophy etc.
My attitude towards the little things that I received, and have absolutely no use for is similar to Andy, from Toy Story 3. He wouldn’t give up his favorite toys even when he’s heading off to college, he would put them in a place where they are safe. Something that little can affect someone significantly in the real world, giving them a incentive to in actually work harder oppose to giving up easily.

All Things are created twice-first mentally second physically

In every creation, the image and basic backgrounds are always developed first than actually physically creating it. The mind is a powerful tool that takes the host to all sorts of places including ideas that could be the key to the future. The idea of creating something must be thought out first, hence the word “first mentally,” from Stephen R. Covey.
A great example is the idea of flight from the Wright brothers. Creating the first model airplanes, sketching on paper thinking it thoroughly was first required. People believed that this idea was useless and is impossible. It was because of them and their determination that created the first modeled plane which eventually became today’s primary form of travel.
Sketching is a form strategy that transfers ones idea to paper. It may appear to be simple but can be quite challenging, requiring both skills and talent with precise measurements before actually accomplishing something. Again a measurement is another challenge, with correct calculations etc. the ideas could be as simple as pencil, but creating something that can be life threatening such as a plane, requires some serious time to think and adjust.
Even after completing the project physically. Testing the plane or invention/ idea is the finale stage and hardest part of them all. Anything can go wrong from a simple screw not being screwed on tight enough to major parts of the plane actually falling off during flight with passengers onboard.
Nowadays, people view planes as a safe and easy transportation system. Even so, occasionally planes will sometimes have problems during flight with hundreds of passengers, for example engine failures. Planes have crashed due to results of that, killing hundreds of civilians. Which is why, modern day planes are inspected everyday by professionals to prevent tragic accidents. But again that doesn’t guarantee a hundred percent safety
Picturing an incredible piece of artwork of a modeled plane, drawing it will take some time, with details on every little part. Physically placing it together is a thousand times more difficult. But according to Stephen, Mentally coming up with the idea of a easy transportation system such as the plane is the most important. When something is created it can always be changed but the idea of it cannot. Improvements will always be made, nothing is perfect, additional things will always be added throughout a period of time.
The idea of planes has changed dramatically from being a basic use of transportation to military weapons; Helicopters with machine guns, jets with rocket launchers etc. how one basic idea can change so much is mind blowing.
Arguably it was because of the Wright brothers idea of a plane, came to the development of a space shuttle. First idea from transportation to military use, to a tool that is used to unlock the mysteries of the universe. Who knows what will happen in a hundred years, what else will come after the space shuttle? Someday into the future, our people will be traveling through the galaxy with the speed of light, all thanks to the Wright brothers.

My most memorable contribution to SIS

Having been in S.I.S for 12 years, paying more than 450 dollars a month, is by far the biggest and most memorable contribution for me and my family. I have been at S.I.S from first grade, being here longer than Dr. Jenkins. Plus I have a little sister, Emily, who has been here longer than I have. Throughout this twelve years time, I’ve seen many students and staff members come and go, all previously known friends and classmates now gone, new ones replacing them.
I am not a founding member but should be considered in at least taking in some part making the school great today. My sister and I have been paying tuition every month which is around 1 thousand dollars, 12 thousand a year. Putting the years of me and my sister together is over 13 years, she being here since K5, that’s a long time and a lot of money overall.
I witnessed the school change from just a simple elementary and middle school to a fully developed high school. The place where we sit and enjoy our lunch wasn’t always there. I used to hate eating lunch because it was always hot; the “Paula Paula” wasn’t built until sometime in my fifth year of attending S.I.S. The school has progressed at a lot and made a lot of positive changes.
A lot of my favorite teachers from the past left, and I met a lot of other cool teachers now, but things were a lot easier back in the day, I suppose it is all the same for people in elementary school. Although most changes are positive and great in many ways, some however is not. For example, the school never had after school detentions, students simply making a mistake is usually not given a warning depending on the teachers mood will be given a detention.
Overall, the school in my opinion is the way it is today is largely because of my family contribution, hundreds of thousands of dollars given to the school in exchange for my education is worth it. S.I.S who used this money for paying qualified teachers actually in my opinion is doing the right thing, unlike some public schools where the teachers are not qualified and don’t care about the students, the contribution we made and a lot of other students made affects everyone greatly and positively.
Soon I’ll be heading off to college and 2 years after so will my sister; hopefully the school will have change again by the time I graduate from college. I would want to some day visit the one place where I grew up and come to know for so long. The school can be considered my second home. Whenever I’m not at my house or out having fun, I’m at school. I come to develop a special comfort at certain places in school, for example the restroom.

What i'll be doing 10 years from now

Ten years from now I can only think of myself in a business, either working in one or actually owning one. Starting off a small business has always been my goal, like my father, I want to receive the experiences first before actually starting off a business, but 5 years or more should be more than enough. I have not yet decided what kind of business I’ll be in but the concept is still the same, a business is a business not matter what field it’s in. receiving the first hand experience is the key to a and successful business in my opinion.
Knowing basic strategies and understanding them is the only way, starting off fresh is only a mistake. This idea is similar to an internship. Who in the right mind will work and not receive pay? Only those willingly, even then those who are willingly are not actually doing it for nothing, they exchange their payments for knowledge and experience instead of cash. Focusing on a particular field in which one is interested in and taking it off step by step. The exceptional rich folks who are able to afford losing an investment in starting off a small company, with that kind of idea it will only lead to failure in the near future.
My father, before starting off his own business, worked as an employee for “Taro sue,” a furniture shop. There he learned how to treat customers and receive a firsthand experience like I stated in the previous paragraph. Although it was not his shop, he treated customers politely as expected for all employees. Sometimes the customers would ask for discounts, only a few cents at the time, he would agree. His boss liked him very much and was grateful for how well he made the business by doing that, his wife on the other did not and fired my father for doing so. My father then decided to start off his own store, shipping in new products from Taiwan.
There he made some money and began investing in garment industries. The business flourished and he is currently still in the business today. It all starts off small; even babies’ learn to crawl first before walking. It’s all about the choices we make and how we come to make the final decision that makes a great company successful. Nothing comes for free and always comes with a price. Never be cheap with customers, my father says, it’s all about making them happy, and when their happy they’ll come back. In the end the business will still profit.
Becoming a successful businessman requires one to see the big picture and not the little things, those who cannot see the big picture will definitely fail at the business, just giving a customer a few cents in discount will not ruin the business but in fact make it profit because like I said, when customers are happy and pleased with the shop or company they’ll often come back. Keeping those few cents and upsetting the customers, the chance of them returning is highly unlikely. Why chose you when they have so many other options, the point is to put yourself above everyone else. That is survival just like the jungle.
