What is my life philosophy?

Throughout the eighteen years of my existence, I have one philosophy, which is to never give up. I realize that this may sound a little corny, and is used commonly. But my view, my way of living is sorely based upon that. This is also something similar to Winston Churchill’s idea; in his speech he included the words “never, never, never, never give up,” something very similar to my idea. At a young age, I’ve been hearing people saying that perseverance is the virtue to succeed in life; I’ve come to see that as something that is true, whenever something is presented before me, I quickly make my decisions. That was a decision a made a long time ago.
Some say a person deserves a second chance; others say that a person will never change. Based on my philosophy, I come to see that people will indeed not change, speaking of the majority. Which is why during criminal investigations, police officers usually search people with records because they will not stop, and it is embedded into their genes. People are just naturally born evil; it is up to the individual to see if they want to take that evil and actually make something happen from it. This is due to the individuals lacking perseverance; people that tend to break the law are people that tend to give up quicker than those who try, those who try usually will succeed.
No on e wants to be a failure in life, each person has their own philosophy, and it is because of that philosophy that brings them that success or that failure. It is up to us, the individual, to actually follow the words of the wise and experience to never make that same mistake. Why not take the path that is already cleared? In Chinese culture, there is this wise saying, “not listening to the old, failure lies ahead.” My philosophy, my ways of thinking, my personality, are gifts from those experienced to me. Taking their ideas, deciding whether or not to follow them is totally up to me, but not giving up has got me through a lot of things. Occasionally, there are times where I know that I am not going to succeed and give up, but most of the times I remember that we will never know the end until we try.
The human mind is a powerful tool, it tells us right and wrong, and it tells us good or bad. There are a part of us that tells us to give up; I suppose that that is the part of the evil within us. While the other part tells us to not give up, like I said, it we completely up to us to decide which conscience to follow. Many believe that there are demons inside of us, trying to control us. But whenever there is evil, there is balance to counter it. For every yin, there is a yang. Never give up and never back down!

Is billiards a sport? chess?

Personally, to me Billiards is a form of sport. Not so much chess, which is more of a mind game. Billiards is an activity that requires physical movements much like other sports for example, tennis; however, the energy used to do billiards is far less than of tennis. Billiards to me is a very exciting sport that requires both skill, and mind. For a few months in my junior year, I literally go to “Ace,” a pool bar across a McDonald gas station in Garapan, Saipan, every weekend with my friends. I nearly perfected my accuracy to always striking the appropriate ball, occasionally mistakes do occur. I am a person that play’s both billiards and chess, which is why I believe I should at least have in say between the connection the two and why billiards is considered a sport.
Why say it’s a sport? Because, the competitors treat it like it is. All over the world, people bet on billiards, whether money if involved or not, it is still considered by most people a sport. Also, people sweat while playing it. In my opinion, whenever the host of players sweat, it is most likely to be a sport, unless the area is hot. For example, playing chess in a room without air conditioning, that is just wrong.
The reason why chess in my definition is not a sport, and should not be considered in the same category in billiards is it’s simple. The category of strategy games includes chess with other board games turn into video or computer games. Sports itself have its own category, I’ve noticed that billiards (pool) is placed into the category of sports, but that is just how I remembered, I could be wrong. I’ve never really paid much attention to the category of billiards, I play the sport but I don’t play the video game version. However, chess on the other hand, I play both the real thing and the computer game.
From time to time, I still go back to play billiards. Every once in a while, when my friends and I gather for special events, such as a birthday or some events, we almost always go to play billiards and every time we play, the feeling of nervousness grabs hold, simply because we bet on dumb things when the opponent loses. The seriousness of the game is what interests me the most.
When I was young, I’ve never thought I would play such a boring sport, it wasn’t until later that I found out it was one of my favorite hobbies. I think what motivated me to play the sport in the first place has something to do with my grandmother. Before I knew the sport, she watched this pool tournament show in Taiwan, whenever it was that time, she would change the cartoons we were watching, we didn’t like it but we had to because, in any Asian tradition, respecting the elders is the most important. Plus, she was my grandmother.
My sister and I would always be upset, but as I remember, she always laughed when watching it. I used to think that it was boring, even till this day I don’t know why she had so much fun watching it. I heard from my father that my grandmother used to know absolutely nothing about pool, but as she watched she learned. I always feel that my interest in billiards has some connection with her. I don’t think there is anything funny about it, but it could be that the host speaker of the show was just funny whenever a player makes a mistake.

Should steroids in athletics be banned?

Taking steroids is harmful to the human body. A person should be happy with what they have; taking something that makes the body generate a large mass amount of energy only makes them feel good about themselves temporarily. As soon as the effects wear off, the individual taking it will continue to take it in order to gain that feeling again.
It is up to the individual to make that decision similar to taking illegal drugs. Even when the laws states something is illegal, people nevertheless continues to do it, steroids are not but are in the same category as heroin and cocaine in my definition. The most important thing here is not taking steroids but prevent children and teens from taking it. The professional athletes they set an example to the younger generation, children tends to imitate their role models and when someone does something that is wrong, children and teens will normally follow in their footstep.
In every drug there is a side effect, I am however not certain what the effects of steroid does but it probably wouldn’t be pleasant. Drugs are invented to help the body recover from illness or diseases. People shouldn’t take something when they have absolutely nothing wrong with their body; just because one dislikes his or her physical shape they shouldn’t take something that might change that. God gave us our body for a reason and we should be happy, but that’s not true 90% of the time.
What does one gain from an increase amount of strength and agility? It is based on talents and the individual playing the sport and not some drug that will make everything go well, that is a common misinterpretation and misunderstanding of steroids. Since steroids are legal and can be purchased almost anywhere, people tend to see it as a common drug that is okay to use. Like heroins and other addictive drug, steroids play some kind of addiction on the host as well. When someone is receiving a lot of compliment because they’re taking steroids to make them stronger, they will continue to take it in hope of receiving that compliment even more. Who would want the compliments to stop? Steroids are more of a drug that deals with mental addiction as oppose to physical addiction.
Because people are always so negative believing they are weak and unable to do something, taking steroids is an incentive for them. But in reality it is all in their imagination, a individual will do good in whatever they’re interested in but when they don’t have faith they will almost absolutely not do well on it. Sports are supposed to be fun and see what each individual can do; instead people turn it into something far more important than they should be. It is an exercise and an activity, and now the society has changed it to competition.

things I want to receive on my high school graduation

The one day I’ve been looking forward to for 18 years. The one day that supposedly is the happiest day of my life. Honestly I don’t really have anything that I want; it is not that I have everything. Receiving something is just an object and whatever it may be a person will eventually grow out of it. For example, have you ever think back to when you had a special toy that you loved so much, eventually you tossed it aside as you grew older. What I truly want is not something that I can have but something I can remember by. This is supposed to be the one day in our lives that we should remember besides the college graduation.
What I want is for everyone close to me to have a good time, party, and basically have a memory that lasts for a life time. My view on things might be slightly different that what most people want, but I believe there are a few others out there that share the same idea. Most people might want some expensive watch, or some incredible jewelry by. However, that moment will be lost in the past; time continues and stops for no one. The feeling is what is most important, the dream can be lost but the memory cant.
Without memory what is the point of living, each day a unique moment. High school is the one thing people look back to. Some might think college is but high school is by far the most memorable, they think back to the good old days and the great moments they’ve had and some not so great. Graduation is the ending of all that, we might think that the high school graduation is the best but really it is a time where it is the saddest. People will never see each other again, this is the stage where many of us will part and go our separate ways.
Therefore celebrating our graduation day is the most important than some solid object. In some schools, schools has this thing called a “senior trip,” where all the seniors go off to some place, usually another country for some fun and excitement. But because SIS is not responsible for holding a senior trip, we have to come up with it on our own. Also because many of our seniors are not United States citizens, they are restricted to enter some countries. Because of that reason, many of us decided to participate in it, plus the money is a problem from some students as well. Because we are restricted on so many levels, I want our class, the senior class of 2011 to have a great time on the island we’re on and celebrate one last time before we go our separate ways.

About Me, Beautiful Me

My name is Samson Hsieh, born on the beautiful island of Saipan, possess the ability to succeed. I am a very charismatic person, who loves jokes and spending time with my family. I also love having fun by doing things that people wouldn’t normally do, due to shyness or lacking confidence. Some will consider that dumb and others will say that this is a gift, a potential that will lead to greatness. What I love is what I might pursue in the future. At a young age I developed this interest towards watching movies. The genres that interest me contain comedy, horror, and post apocalyptic films.
There is this part of me that loves to see the world coming to an end, with only a few survivors carrying weapons and shooting zombies, each day an adventure, each moment in action. I see things through a very positive way; I see two doors open when one door shuts. People normally get extremely upset over things, I see ways to overcome that and get things done earlier, and therefore I don’t have to have to worry about it later. What a lot of teens don’t understand is that family comes first before anything. Maybe some will say they too follow that, but their actions only causes the family trouble by doing things that upset their parents. I put the welfare of my family before myself and anybody else.
From the very beginning my ideas and view of life is the same. Sometimes I think that even my parents don’t know me that well, but I guess that’s what most people feel at their early stages of life. People say people change, but I beg to differ. I don’t believe that my ways have changed. There is saying in Chinese that says, “You can tell a person at the age of three,” a saying has been passed down for generations. The western influence on the world today says that people change but I don’t believe that. People think they know me, but how much do they truly know about me?
A biblical concept today is that people are naturally born evil. I believe that, everyone in this world possess the feeling of jealousy, hate, and anger. Those things can lead to very dangerous actions. I can’t say I’m good, because I’m not, but one thing that I know that I will not sabotage someone in anything for my own selfish gain. Eight of 10 people will do that, I am those who will not. But I am too a careful person, me not doing that doesn’t necessarily mean that someone will not to it do me, therefore at all times I keep my eyes open. If your nice to me, then I’ll be nice to you 3 times more.

What is the ideal age to die?

Life is a precious gift from god and should be cherished more than anything in this world. In life a person may die at any given moment and from anything. The answer for the topic is unanswerable; there is not an ideal age to die. Normally a religious person would say when a person has completed his mission in life then god will take them. People die at all ages, from birth to children, teens, and adulthood. This is topic is dependent upon the individual and their view of life and how they are living it.
In society the ideal age to die is when a person is old, probably somewhere around their 80s. Most elderly usually does not have as much pressure compared to when they were younger, have children, grandchildren etc. basically having a happy life. But taking it from their prospective, old people are still people, they opinion on death is the same as everybody else. No one in this world will want to die, unless mentally disturbed individuals. Everyone knows eventually they will die; the society setting up an ideal age around the 80s makes a lot of people feel great at first knowing that they have a long way to go before dying. But as we know, time flies, and sooner or later we will eventually become old and have no choice but accept the fact we’re all going to die.
Even during life threatening situations, children and women are usually taken to safety first. It is simple, children has not experienced life yet compared to the elderly who has experienced everything. Obviously when we ask people at the age around 80s and 90s, if they lived a happy life and is ready to die, they will probably say no. The society we live in shouldn’t picture that age as an ideal age to die, because when we actually do reach that age we wouldn’t want to die. There is beginning and end for everything, but we don’t know when and we shouldn’t either.
The reason why we don’t have a meter running above our heads telling us when we’re going to die is because that way we can be happy. Knowing when we’re going to die only scares us, therefore it is wrong for the society to set such a rule, scaring people into believing that they will die somewhere that age is wrong and unjust. For example, would you tell a dying patient of their illness if you’re a doctor? Some will say yes, some may not. Doctors usually tell the family before telling patients, and then it is up to the families if they will want notify their loved ones on their illness. Not telling someone when they’re going to die actually makes them live longer some say. People will usually be upset if they know their time is limited in this world, fearing it each day, thus causing them to die sooner than they will if they haven’t found out.

If you can teach your son only one thing, what would you teach and why?

Throughout an individual’s lifetime, the lessons they learn is the most important. If I can teach my son one important lesson it would be that, in life a person will always run into some kind of trouble and the most important thing to remember is to never give up, as one door shuts two others open. Many who can’t seem to understand often leads to suicides or serious depressions. Although depression appears to not be too much of a problem, it often leads to suicidal thoughts which sometimes can actually lead to more problematic thoughts. For example, killing oneself is wrong, but the thought of killing another individual is just unacceptable and evil. To prevent that, always look for the light, look for the greater good no matter how horrible the situation is. Remember without you, the world will not stop, time will not stop!
Today, too many people suffer from mental breakdowns and depressions or other similar disorders. This is a direct cause from the pressure given by the society to its people, as we progress further in the future, life will not get easier only harder. To prevent that, one must overcome anything and in order to do so, is to again look pass the negativity. It is alright to fail in life, the whole purpose of failing is so that we can learn from our mistakes and know to never make that same mistake again in the future.
The Chinese people have a saying, “不听老人言, 吃亏(Kui) 在眼前.” Which means, “If you don’t listen to the words of the old, you will have trouble right before your eyes.” A meaningful sentence said by my mother and by a lot of other people as well. A warning to the
next generation of the path they’ve taken and preventing them from taking that same route. Those who choose to listen will not suffer and those who do not will face the consequences.
But who is to say that nothing will ever go wrong in life? Even the older generations make mistakes and sometimes they don’t learn, the bigger picture is not about mistakes or about right and wrong. The big picture here is to not lower the standard of oneself and actually look above everybody else. Nothing will ever hurt you when you don’t have that much emotions put into you. Now I am not saying to be cocky, because then you will be put below everybody else. What I am saying is to look pass failure, it is okay to fail, but have the dignity to recover from it like what most people do. Remember in everything, failure is a possibility, face it then you won’t fail.

Name an animal and describe it in 500 words.

The world, filled with magnificent creatures, each having its own unique qualities. The one animal that still confuses people till this day is the chicken, we know for a fact that chicken comes from eggs and eggs from chicken. But really where does a chicken come from? The one animal that is most widely consumed and yet the origins of it is not known. We shouldn’t say it’s not known, because we do know. But where did the first chicken come from, an egg or chicken?
Even I am stirred by this. A chicken it is infant form (egg) can be boiled, scrambled, etc. there are so many ways to cook a chicken, and most of its part of are edible. The Chinese have a popular dish known as “Feng Zhua,” meaning a birds claw, but not from birds but chicken, which is a type of bird. It is my favorite and is also a widely ordered dish amongst the Chinese. Other places of the chicken such as for example its legs and wings, are famous globally. Chicken legs and wings are literally everywhere, you can walk down to any market and superstore and purchase it. If someone who doesn’t know or want to cook but wants it, can also just go to any restaurant and purchase it, for example KFC, which is famous for its chickens.
Chickens are not scary animals; they are cute, which is bad for them. People aren’t afraid of slaughtering chickens because they’re not scary as oppose to a cow. Plus disposing the waste of a chicken after is much easier than disposing the dead waste of a cow. They are easy to catch and easy to feed, even when they do somehow get loose they wouldn’t be able to get far. This is not the same for cows and other large animals, once they get out; the people actually trying to catch them will have a difficult time doing so.
Most importantly, chickens don’t take up too much space. People normally just built them a little house and they can lay their eggs, do their business and stuff inside and not causing too much problems for the owners. Also chickens give birth to baby roosters, which is another useful animal that can help the owners wake up once its morning. Chicken can produce many eggs a day; it is an endless supply of food. Because of the existence of chicken, a lot of people in this world didn’t starve to death. It saves lives, especially in 3rd world countries, where food is a problem.
Chickens also have a downside, because chickens and humans are similar in some way. People began getting diseases from them, for example the avian bird flu etc. resulting in a lot of people dying, and I guess it’s something they developed to get back at the humans for consuming them for centuries.

What could Saipan’s government do to improve economic conditions?

Currently, most of the world’s once rich and powerful nations are in a recession. People are not employed and things are not running smoothly, except for China, who is actually doing great during this recession. The local government on Saipan can actually take this opportunity to benefit itself, by following the footsteps of china.
Even though technically, Saipan belongs to the U.S, because it is a commonwealth and the local people controls everything. Things can actually be done around here much easier than bigger islands such as Guam or Hawaii. Because the people in the local government are lazy, and lack political abilities, the people of Saipan are suffering. If only the political system of the island is done correctly with qualified people running things, the federal wouldn’t have come, resulting in thousands losing their jobs.
The local government should somewhat provide jobs; give more opportunities to people, instead of handing out food stamps 3 times a week and spoiling its people. Every single person in this world is lazy, with food stamps provided, people will only get lazier and lazier. If the local government will limit a certain extent of food stamps given out, like for example, once a week, this would actually help the local people in the long run and finally achieving something for once in their life.
Now that garment factories are no longer here, the income of the local government just keeps decreasing. Because there are too many unqualified family members in the local government, they couldn’t prevent this from happening. Now Saipan must come out with a new way to raise money and make its way to the top again. Asking literally millions of dollars from the mainland each year will only worsen situation. There is a price for everything, the local people doesn’t seem to understand that. The money the U.S provides to us is not free; they would probably want something in return and soon.
Because Saipan is popular in the tourism industry, the local government should start from there. Hiring people and setting up advertisement, maybe even fixing up a few new areas to attract more people. Giving the tourist positive first impression so they could go home and spread the word, resulting in more people coming. Seeing the same things over will only bore the audience, people will come back and see there is no progression, leaving only knowing nothing will ever change. Because the paste Saipan is going right now, it is slowing down its economic system.
Saipan should literally pull its head out of the toilet and start running things in a much orderly fashion. Saipan is like a not strict and layback teacher, the students will most definitely turn out to be naughty and disobedient. If Saipan was much more like China, a mean teacher that’s says, do this or you’ll be spanked. Kids will more likely to follow the orders. The citizens of Saipan are naughty children and should be punished at times like this. Saipan, the teacher, should be punished as well. Maybe one day we’ll see the sun shining down on Saipan again.

The proudest moment in my life - Samson

Throughout most of my life I have not done anything significant. But the one moment that I clearly remember that I was truly proud of is when I first received my trophy at a Chinese learning facility, for an outstanding academic achievement. I am Chinese, however I have never studied in china, and I received the trophy here on Saipan. It surprised me when they announced my name; I stood up shocked and went to claim the trophy, standing alongside many other hard working students.
My younger sister was in the same learning facility, after the announcement was done, she asked, “where is my trophy?” We were very young then, still attending elementary school. The lady, who was announcing the names, said “you will have to work hard like your brother, work harder and next time you’ll get one too.” She cried and screamed asking for one and wouldn’t leave without it. My father and mother had to carry her out, that’s how young we were, we’re only two years apart.
The place was on the second floor, in a building across from a Chinese market known as Hainan Market. Back in the day below that facility there was another market, my parents wanted to congratulate me so they bought me an ultra man blanket, also a hello kitty blanket for my little sister in order to make her stop crying. My mom still mentions this day from time to time. It was a great moment for me. That is the first and only trophy that I have ever received up until today. Although it was plastic, it gave me a great feeling that for the first time I’ve actually done something right.
I loved that trophy; it was like a treasure to me. I remembered that after a few months after receiving that trophy my sister wanted to buy that from me. That trophy, my first and only trophy is now lost somewhere. But the feeling of receiving something that you’ve actually work for is the one feeling you need in life. That one little piece of plastic today still makes me feel great today; little things from my past have great sentimental value to me. I always kept my favorite toys or things such as that trophy etc.
My attitude towards the little things that I received, and have absolutely no use for is similar to Andy, from Toy Story 3. He wouldn’t give up his favorite toys even when he’s heading off to college, he would put them in a place where they are safe. Something that little can affect someone significantly in the real world, giving them a incentive to in actually work harder oppose to giving up easily.

All Things are created twice-first mentally second physically

In every creation, the image and basic backgrounds are always developed first than actually physically creating it. The mind is a powerful tool that takes the host to all sorts of places including ideas that could be the key to the future. The idea of creating something must be thought out first, hence the word “first mentally,” from Stephen R. Covey.
A great example is the idea of flight from the Wright brothers. Creating the first model airplanes, sketching on paper thinking it thoroughly was first required. People believed that this idea was useless and is impossible. It was because of them and their determination that created the first modeled plane which eventually became today’s primary form of travel.
Sketching is a form strategy that transfers ones idea to paper. It may appear to be simple but can be quite challenging, requiring both skills and talent with precise measurements before actually accomplishing something. Again a measurement is another challenge, with correct calculations etc. the ideas could be as simple as pencil, but creating something that can be life threatening such as a plane, requires some serious time to think and adjust.
Even after completing the project physically. Testing the plane or invention/ idea is the finale stage and hardest part of them all. Anything can go wrong from a simple screw not being screwed on tight enough to major parts of the plane actually falling off during flight with passengers onboard.
Nowadays, people view planes as a safe and easy transportation system. Even so, occasionally planes will sometimes have problems during flight with hundreds of passengers, for example engine failures. Planes have crashed due to results of that, killing hundreds of civilians. Which is why, modern day planes are inspected everyday by professionals to prevent tragic accidents. But again that doesn’t guarantee a hundred percent safety
Picturing an incredible piece of artwork of a modeled plane, drawing it will take some time, with details on every little part. Physically placing it together is a thousand times more difficult. But according to Stephen, Mentally coming up with the idea of a easy transportation system such as the plane is the most important. When something is created it can always be changed but the idea of it cannot. Improvements will always be made, nothing is perfect, additional things will always be added throughout a period of time.
The idea of planes has changed dramatically from being a basic use of transportation to military weapons; Helicopters with machine guns, jets with rocket launchers etc. how one basic idea can change so much is mind blowing.
Arguably it was because of the Wright brothers idea of a plane, came to the development of a space shuttle. First idea from transportation to military use, to a tool that is used to unlock the mysteries of the universe. Who knows what will happen in a hundred years, what else will come after the space shuttle? Someday into the future, our people will be traveling through the galaxy with the speed of light, all thanks to the Wright brothers.

My most memorable contribution to SIS

Having been in S.I.S for 12 years, paying more than 450 dollars a month, is by far the biggest and most memorable contribution for me and my family. I have been at S.I.S from first grade, being here longer than Dr. Jenkins. Plus I have a little sister, Emily, who has been here longer than I have. Throughout this twelve years time, I’ve seen many students and staff members come and go, all previously known friends and classmates now gone, new ones replacing them.
I am not a founding member but should be considered in at least taking in some part making the school great today. My sister and I have been paying tuition every month which is around 1 thousand dollars, 12 thousand a year. Putting the years of me and my sister together is over 13 years, she being here since K5, that’s a long time and a lot of money overall.
I witnessed the school change from just a simple elementary and middle school to a fully developed high school. The place where we sit and enjoy our lunch wasn’t always there. I used to hate eating lunch because it was always hot; the “Paula Paula” wasn’t built until sometime in my fifth year of attending S.I.S. The school has progressed at a lot and made a lot of positive changes.
A lot of my favorite teachers from the past left, and I met a lot of other cool teachers now, but things were a lot easier back in the day, I suppose it is all the same for people in elementary school. Although most changes are positive and great in many ways, some however is not. For example, the school never had after school detentions, students simply making a mistake is usually not given a warning depending on the teachers mood will be given a detention.
Overall, the school in my opinion is the way it is today is largely because of my family contribution, hundreds of thousands of dollars given to the school in exchange for my education is worth it. S.I.S who used this money for paying qualified teachers actually in my opinion is doing the right thing, unlike some public schools where the teachers are not qualified and don’t care about the students, the contribution we made and a lot of other students made affects everyone greatly and positively.
Soon I’ll be heading off to college and 2 years after so will my sister; hopefully the school will have change again by the time I graduate from college. I would want to some day visit the one place where I grew up and come to know for so long. The school can be considered my second home. Whenever I’m not at my house or out having fun, I’m at school. I come to develop a special comfort at certain places in school, for example the restroom.

What i'll be doing 10 years from now

Ten years from now I can only think of myself in a business, either working in one or actually owning one. Starting off a small business has always been my goal, like my father, I want to receive the experiences first before actually starting off a business, but 5 years or more should be more than enough. I have not yet decided what kind of business I’ll be in but the concept is still the same, a business is a business not matter what field it’s in. receiving the first hand experience is the key to a and successful business in my opinion.
Knowing basic strategies and understanding them is the only way, starting off fresh is only a mistake. This idea is similar to an internship. Who in the right mind will work and not receive pay? Only those willingly, even then those who are willingly are not actually doing it for nothing, they exchange their payments for knowledge and experience instead of cash. Focusing on a particular field in which one is interested in and taking it off step by step. The exceptional rich folks who are able to afford losing an investment in starting off a small company, with that kind of idea it will only lead to failure in the near future.
My father, before starting off his own business, worked as an employee for “Taro sue,” a furniture shop. There he learned how to treat customers and receive a firsthand experience like I stated in the previous paragraph. Although it was not his shop, he treated customers politely as expected for all employees. Sometimes the customers would ask for discounts, only a few cents at the time, he would agree. His boss liked him very much and was grateful for how well he made the business by doing that, his wife on the other did not and fired my father for doing so. My father then decided to start off his own store, shipping in new products from Taiwan.
There he made some money and began investing in garment industries. The business flourished and he is currently still in the business today. It all starts off small; even babies’ learn to crawl first before walking. It’s all about the choices we make and how we come to make the final decision that makes a great company successful. Nothing comes for free and always comes with a price. Never be cheap with customers, my father says, it’s all about making them happy, and when their happy they’ll come back. In the end the business will still profit.
Becoming a successful businessman requires one to see the big picture and not the little things, those who cannot see the big picture will definitely fail at the business, just giving a customer a few cents in discount will not ruin the business but in fact make it profit because like I said, when customers are happy and pleased with the shop or company they’ll often come back. Keeping those few cents and upsetting the customers, the chance of them returning is highly unlikely. Why chose you when they have so many other options, the point is to put yourself above everyone else. That is survival just like the jungle.

If I can take only one book to an island for one month,

The only book I ever loved would be “Warriors,” therefore I would bring that book to the island. I did know the authors name but since it’s been so long, I forgot it, it was a woman who wrote the book. I received that book when I was in 6th grade from my French and science teacher as a gift, everyone in my class was allowed to select a book from a box and faith brought that book to me. The book is a compilation of mythical stories from the samurai period in Japan to robots in the future.
I developed in this interest in this book when my father brought us to Qing Yuan, China. Before leaving, I thought to myself that sitting on the plane for hours would be boring, thus I brought the book. I turned to the first page and began reading, right at that was the moment where the image of the samurai wielding a sword appeared in my head, the feeling of it was actually like watching television in my mind. I was occupied that it was the one and only time I couldn’t stop reading, after that no other book that I’ve read was that addicting.
Since it’s been so long that I’ve read this book, I wouldn’t mind reading it again. It would be like watching a movie the second, unlocking events that I didn’t previously catch. Personally I dislike reading an entire book based on one story itself, to me that is just boring and time consuming, if it is an interesting story I might say otherwise, but in the mean time, I prefer reading compilations of short, humorous, adventurous stories.
If the island is an unpopulated island similar to that in the movie, “castaway,” I would first do the following, find shelter, find locations of fruits and collect some, and basically preparing everything that I need to in order to survive. After everything is gathered, a fresh supply of water and food, and have nothing else to do. I would take this time reading instead of going insane. Because the book is the only thing that might keep me occupied when everything is done, it would have more value to me than just a book.
Therefore, I will waste time and save the reading until a few days before actually leaving the island. I would learn the terrain first, keep myself occupied with something, then and only then when everything is out of option, I will read. People tend to lose their minds when they run out of options and stranded with nothing to do. When the mind is focused for example on the book, it would remain under control and not wonder off to complete oblivion.
Books are not only for studying they are for entertainment, kids nowadays don’t read as much as they used to. The advancement of computers and technology has brought the book reading era to the middle ages, people argue that kids are reading more because of the internet and computers, but things on the computer than things on the book are completely different things. If I can’t bring computers to the island I would of course select a book, plus brining a computer will do no good if there is no internet connection. Once the month is up, and I’ve survived everything and have not completely lost my mind I would argue that the book saved my life. There is absolutely no point in bringing a book that you are not interested in, therefore my suggestion is to bring something that you will like, and will read for the second time and not get tired of.

If I had one million dollars and no one knew about it, I would.

If no one knew I had a million dollars, first I would buy a house somewhere beautiful. A place where there wouldn’t be much pollution, peaceful, and most importantly safe, probably Malibu, California. But because I haven’t been to Malibu, I can’t say for certain that it will be a hundred percent satisfying. If there were any left over’s of the million then comes a sport car of my dream, a Lamborghini.
Although I prefer a sports car over a house any day, I chose to buy the house first because, once it is mine, it will forever be mine, and I will be set for life. Instead of having a really nice cars picking up women, living the life of a rock star, sooner or later the money will run out. Therefore the house is the priority.
I have a certain type of house that I am particularly interested in but the cost of it exceeds over one million dollars. The second option is to invest the money into a company, once the company does extremely well over a period of time, I will have not one million but millions of dollars. Once that happens then I’ll probably again go for the house that I want. A description of that house would be, glass window for walls, a view of water, a large yard, and just basically something that is similar to the house of Tony Stark, a fictional characters house in the movie Iron Man.
But before I do anything with the money, I must be cautious, and tell no one of the million dollars I have, not even my family. Or we can only think for the worst, people nowadays will kill for half a million, imagine what they would go through for the whole million. No matter how much the money is involved, it shouldn’t worth more than a life. To prevent that, the news of possessing one million dollars, under no circumstance can be shared or spoken of; secrecy will be the key for a person to keep his million and his life.
Also the behavior of one is most crucial as well. Someone will definitely notice when an individual is acting out, suddenly driving sports cars, showing off by throwing out lots of money, bad things will happen. I have no problem keeping secrets and especially not showing off money. But I can’t say the same for my family members, one mistake and the whole family could be in danger. So again to prevent that from happening I must not tell them about the cash.
Most people that gets a million dollar will probably tell their family right away. But right after that, every member in the family who knows about the great news will come to a conclusion on keeping that a secret. Whenever large groups of people is trying to keep a secret, most of the times there will be one individual whom will accidently make a mistake by saying it without realizing it. When the news gets out, bad things, really bad things will start to happen.
Many years ago, a similar event regarding large amounts of money resulted in the death of a young girl, age 16. Her mother “Bai Bingh Bing,” a Taiwanese television/movie star had tons of money, but because she was bragging too much on how cheap expensive things was, her 16 year old daughter was kidnapped. The kidnappers ask for ransom that exceeds over the amount Bai Bing Bing had. They did the unthinkable; first they mailed a finger to her mother. When she went to the cops, they brutally slaughtered her. Until this day she regrets what she did and cries on television every time this topic comes up. She lost her only daughter and now lives alone, appearing every once in a while in a cooking show.

Most Memorable Literary Hero

Johnny from the novel outsiders written by S.E. Hinton, the novel deals with two rival gangs, the Greasers and the Socs. As the story takes us further and further within, events involving the actions of Johnny will surprise the audience. Johnny and Pony boy, two important characters in the novel belongs the gang the Greasers, they often fight with the rival gang the Socs. As the two gangs run into conflict in the middle of the story, Pony boy helps his friend by killing one of the members of the socs whom jumped them during an event.
As pony boy wakes from his unconsciousness beating, he see’s Johnny looking at his blade with blood who appeared to have saved him. At that instance, they didn’t know what to do but to find help. They seek help from the roughest man of the Greasers, Dallas, and Dally for short. Dally hands them a hand gun and gave them money. He wants them to buy a week of supply of food and tells them to hide in an old abandoned church. Pony boy, he did not commit the crime but he will accompany Johnny who is the youngest and good friend of pony boys.
Johnny’s father was a drunk and always beat him and his mother wasn’t all that great to him either. Before the killing incident, Johnny was jumped by two Soc members, ever since then he has been paranoid and therefore carrying a switchblade which leads back to him killing one of the Soc members. They find an old abandoned church and hid out for days. Johnny and pony boy kept themselves occupied by reading books; it was then a couple days later when both of them decided it was time to change their appearance. They both cut their hairs, and Johnny bleached his afterwards.
They’ve never felt so alone, but it was great they kept each other company even though it was Johnny who committed the crime. Reaching the end Johnny and pony were running out of supplies, their food was running short and water was limited. It was sometime around then where an elementary school bus arrived where they were hiding out for some kind of fieldtrip. It was about that time where all of sudden the old abandoned church caught fire and began to burn. It was probably because of the cigarettes that pony boy and Johnny were smoking. Both pony and Johnny made it out safely, but then the teacher of the school bus noticed that some of the students were missing. Johnny and pony boy immediately ran back to try and save the helpless students that were trapped inside.
They brought some kids and ran back for the ones who were still inside. Pony boy ran in and a burning log fell on top of his back breaking his spine. He did not die but is paralyzed in the hospital. Johnny was a local hero, his mother came to visit him but he wouldn’t see her. He only wanted to see his pal pony boy, and his Greaser friends. Johnny wanted pony boy to finish reading the story from when they were hiding out. As a couple days past, Johnny sadly died but he died honorably. Therefore Johnny is the most memorable literary hero for me.

3 Things I Want To Do During Summer!

This summer break shouldn't be considered as a break at all since we have already graduated. I would just call it summer, the last summer I have before going off to college. Leaving my family would be the hardest thing I would have to do. So first, I would like to spend some time with my family. I will also be visiting China and Taiwan as well. During my visit with my family, I will of course find my close friends there and take them out to dinner and say good bye in person before actually heading to the States.
I have many things planned for this summer, I will travelling a lot. I will have to also gather my belongings and pack them weeks before hand. I know that this summer would be fun but also depressing as day by day passes. I really do look forward to having a senior trip with my friends on Saipan, but it appears to me that it’s not going to happen. There are so many things that I want to do and will do in my head, writing it out will simply be too long.
I can’t exactly say everything will go as plan, but I hope there wouldn’t be any complications, such as for example, there would be no flight until a certain date because of the airlines being all booked up. Although I graduate in May, I will have to continue to wait until my younger sisters summer begins in order to travel. Most of my travels, I’ve always have family members with me. I have travelled to the states before, approximately ten hours on a plan until reaching California, most likely the place where I will be heading to. The previous trip from Taiwan, the place which I would mostly likely depart from, to San Francisco, I had my sister, and my cousin with me. I’m worried that I’ll feel lonely if I travel alone.
Although I hate my sister sometimes, I still love her and I will want to spend time with her as well. Not being able to see her for 2 years before she graduate may have some impact on me more than I think. I grew up with her, seeing her every day, and now simply not seeing her for 2 years, there will be some sadness.
Like I said before, finding my close friends in Taiwan will also be part of what I want to do. Since the legal age for Taiwanese kids to go drinking and clubbing is 18, I am excited that I can finally do so before leaving. I have heard so many positive things about night clubs in Taipei, I simply can’t wait. The past two years I wanted to make a fake ID in order to get in, I never fully finished it. A family friend who’s passed the legal age works at one of those night clubs and took me there before, but I think I will feel completely different if I know that I’m there legally. I would probably have more fun than I think, or not, who knows. That is the second most important things I want to do besides spending time with my family.
Lastly the finale thing I want to do is, go to the famous water park, south of Taipei. Besides the night clubs in Taipei, the famous water park “Ba Xian Le Yuan,” has always been my dream. I was suppose to go with my friends a few years back, but apparently some of the rides were in maintenance and the only available rides were boring. This year I plan on riding every one of those scary rides, I believe a few years back. The news reported some accident at the park, resulting in one death and several injuries. I believe that this summer will be the best summer ever.
