Most Memorable Literary Hero

Johnny from the novel outsiders written by S.E. Hinton, the novel deals with two rival gangs, the Greasers and the Socs. As the story takes us further and further within, events involving the actions of Johnny will surprise the audience. Johnny and Pony boy, two important characters in the novel belongs the gang the Greasers, they often fight with the rival gang the Socs. As the two gangs run into conflict in the middle of the story, Pony boy helps his friend by killing one of the members of the socs whom jumped them during an event.
As pony boy wakes from his unconsciousness beating, he see’s Johnny looking at his blade with blood who appeared to have saved him. At that instance, they didn’t know what to do but to find help. They seek help from the roughest man of the Greasers, Dallas, and Dally for short. Dally hands them a hand gun and gave them money. He wants them to buy a week of supply of food and tells them to hide in an old abandoned church. Pony boy, he did not commit the crime but he will accompany Johnny who is the youngest and good friend of pony boys.
Johnny’s father was a drunk and always beat him and his mother wasn’t all that great to him either. Before the killing incident, Johnny was jumped by two Soc members, ever since then he has been paranoid and therefore carrying a switchblade which leads back to him killing one of the Soc members. They find an old abandoned church and hid out for days. Johnny and pony boy kept themselves occupied by reading books; it was then a couple days later when both of them decided it was time to change their appearance. They both cut their hairs, and Johnny bleached his afterwards.
They’ve never felt so alone, but it was great they kept each other company even though it was Johnny who committed the crime. Reaching the end Johnny and pony were running out of supplies, their food was running short and water was limited. It was sometime around then where an elementary school bus arrived where they were hiding out for some kind of fieldtrip. It was about that time where all of sudden the old abandoned church caught fire and began to burn. It was probably because of the cigarettes that pony boy and Johnny were smoking. Both pony and Johnny made it out safely, but then the teacher of the school bus noticed that some of the students were missing. Johnny and pony boy immediately ran back to try and save the helpless students that were trapped inside.
They brought some kids and ran back for the ones who were still inside. Pony boy ran in and a burning log fell on top of his back breaking his spine. He did not die but is paralyzed in the hospital. Johnny was a local hero, his mother came to visit him but he wouldn’t see her. He only wanted to see his pal pony boy, and his Greaser friends. Johnny wanted pony boy to finish reading the story from when they were hiding out. As a couple days past, Johnny sadly died but he died honorably. Therefore Johnny is the most memorable literary hero for me.
